Guitar-strumming socialists of the world, unite and take over!

I am becoming middle-aged. Today I went to see my bank about starting a pension. Then I came home and made myself a cup of tea and listened to jazz. My life's ambition now is to have a garden flat and a cat (and, er, to marry David Tennant and become a playwright, but you can't have everything.) Then I found this and thought I'd share it with you as the Great Circle of Blog has been noticably free of anything interactive recently. I came out as as a Left-Wing Idealist (no news there, then,) just to the right of Red Ken and pretty much equal with Tony Benn. I'm keen to bet on what the rest of you would be, but I know for a fact you will all be slightly right wing, with the possibile exception of Rach who I'm thinking is slightly to the left, Cavalier, who will I'm guessing be close to Thatcher, and two of my mates who, if they are reading this at the moment, will come out the same as me. My Catholic won't come out as anything as there's not an option for "Catholic". Anyway, I'd be interested to know how you do.

Hope you are all having fun.

On the scatter plot I am fairly near the centre, which I expected. But rather too close to Tony Blair, which is worrying.

It amuses me how close Howard and Thatcher are to Hitler!

Actually, Poll, I came out as Green Party again; but since I'm quite emphatically NOT St. Francis of Assisi we'll not mention that EVER AGAIN.

How can you come out as Green Party on something which measures your left/right leanings and your pragmatism/idealism leaning?

I don't think you've done the quiz!

Hi Polly!

Well, did it yesterday, and got:

left/right +3.6136 (+0.2175)
pragmatism +0.4145 (+0.0250)

Did it again today, and got:

left/right +3.5163 (+0.2117)
pragmatism +1.1643 (+0.0701)

So, I got a bit more left-wing and a bit more pragmatic over the past 24 hours - especially strange, since the two (leftism and pragmatism) don't usually go together... :) Very much a man of the Right though, so little surprise there, then.

I did think the quiz was (much like the "Political Compass" quiz it was trying to copy) a bit lame. I mean, how is Stalin, I mean STALIN, a right-wing idealist? And how is Adolf Hitler more idealistic than Margaret Thatcher and Michael Howard (that's actually rather offensive in a way)? Are they stoned???

The question "Should religion be based on the literal word of God?" is a bit of a difficult one - does it mean ONLY the literal Word of God (us Papists can't agree with that!)? Or that all of the Christian Scriptures are the literal Word of God (again, difficult to agree with unless you're a fundamentalist/conservative Evangelical)? I think religious faith has to be based on the literal Word of God TO A DEGREE, but...

I wish there was a really good British Political Quiz out there - there WAS a FANTASTIC one on YouGov.net a few years ago, but they removed it, the gits.

Stil the best one has to be the *Americo-centric* World's Smallest Political Quiz - I think it's still on free-market.net or self-gov.org... puts you where you really are, though.

Ah well, take care and God bless you, peace be with you, all my love,

Peter
X + :)

Ooh, watch out, in 10 days you might be a Marxist!

Yeah, it's not perfect, and there are lots more questions it could have answers. but I've done worst ones whose questions run "Are you a Marxist", "A you a Conservative"? And if you answer yes/no it will say, predictably, "You seem to be a Marxist. You do not share Conservative values." At the same time, we came out kind of how I expected...

Julie might well be a Green. Like I said, there's no option for Catholic.

Ideologically Hitler and thatcher had a lot in common, but to Thatcher's credit (Thatcher's credit? What am I saying?! :-) ) she didn't go around killing people and invading Poland.

that's true. combine the best aspects (or least-crap aspects) of the two and you get a financially-sound nutbar twat as opposed to a homicidal inflation-obsessed nutbar twat.

I'm always amused when people get het up over any positive words used to describe Hitler. There's no doubt he was a mass-murdering fuckhead - that's clear enough. But the guy was intelligent and a brilliant politician - he'd have to be to control and manipulate an entire country the way he did, and to get away with it for as long as he did. It's just a shame he turned out to be a power-hungry homicidal nutbar.
